1. Create a canvas of 400 x 400.
2. Use the the Ellipse Tool to
create a circle at 200 x 200. Add a Radial Gradient
fill of colors of your choosing. I chose #000088 as the dark
color and #FFFFFF as the lighter color.

3. To create the rings, select the Ellipse
Tool and draw an elliptical shape as shown below (size
is up to you). Use a Linear Gradient, I chose the colors
of #6767B8 and #D6D6EC. You can chose what ever you wish.

4. Highlight the ellipse you just created
and Copy it (from the main menu select Edit> Copy).
Now select Paste from the edit menu (Edit> Paste).
Change the ellipse to a solid fill with the color of #000000.
Select the black ellipse and go to the Main menu and select
Modify> Transform> Numeric Transform. Use the setting
I used below.

Take the black Ellipse and move it
to the left so that one side of the ellipse is wider then
the other. You should have something similar to this:

5. Select both ellipses (select one
of the ellipses and then hold the shift key down and select
the other. You should now have both ellipses highlighted.
Got to the main menu and select Modify> Combine> Punch.

6. To complete our ring we need to give
the effect that part of our ring is sitting behind our sphere.
Go to the Tools Floating Panel and select the Rectangle
Tool. Draw a rectangle as show below. Manipulate the top
and bottom of the rectangle so that it follows the curve in
the sphere. What we are doing is creating an area that we
will Punch out with the Punch feature.

Now select the "Ring" and
the "Rectangle". Go to the Main menu and select
Modify> Combine> Punch.

That is pretty much it. You can use
the Scale Tool to rotate the Ring at any angle you
wish.
End of tutorial.
